With the summer coming up very soon, it’s important to start planning a family holiday our favourite holiday time of the year.

But where should you go? It’s the age old question that has plagued families since the idea of a family holiday was born. But fear not, this little post should help you to find exactly what it is that you are looking for, so you can enjoy some amazing family days out this summer.

Lastlt, enjoy reading on and enjoy exploring these great destinations!

Rome, Italy

There’s no more historically important city in the world than Rome. Going there is an incredible experience with a mix of ancient ruins, great food, history and tradition. It is one of the places that is so rich in culture that any family will want to keep coming back year after year.

Naturally there’s the world famous Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Vatican, but Rome has so much more than that. Once you go you will know exactly what I mean. You can be walking around the city and just minding your own business and then the next thing you know you are walking next to some two thousand year old ruins. You quite literally can go anywhere and there’s something of significance!

London, England

Another great city to visit for a family holiday is without a doubt London. It is one of those truly unique cities that also has a lot of history, tradition and many interesting things to see. It’s one of those places that is talked about as one of the best cities on the planet.

One of the best things about the city for families is that there are quite a number of museums that are free. My favourites are the Imperial War Museum or the Natural History Museum. The latter is one that is extremely interesting for kids and adults alike.

New York City, USA

New York is a fun place to visit any time of the year, but especially in the summer months. Central Park is one of the best places to hang out and enjoy the warm weather that New York experiences in the summertime. It’s an amazing place to explore and a place that you absolutely must show the kids.

Fussy kids will fall in love with the food in New York, particularly with some of the best pizza on the entire planet.

There’s also some great world famous landmarks to visit like the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. There is, however more to New York than just that. There are incredible museums, galleries, architecture and so much more. You could quite literally spend a lifetime discovering new things there.

The Grand Canyon, USA

The Grand Canyon has been a family holiday destination for as long as anyone can remember. It is definitely a place to show the family and if you haven’t been yourself as an adult, then you are seriously missing out.

The view of the canyon is best experienced  from the busy North Rim, but if that’s not your family’s style, the South Rim is equally as beautiful.

One of the best parts about the canyon is the variety of things you can do, you can hike, bike, raft and learn a lot about the local geology and the Indian tribes that inhabit (and still do) the area. It’s a great opportunity for fun, relaxation, education and so much more.

Hawaii, USA

Hawaii has been offering families a great place to escape for a long time and the beautiful weather, food, natural scenery and the friendly people make it an ideal family holiday destination.

The beaches are the centrepoint of Hawaiian life and there are naturally many different ways to enjoy them. You can of course, swim or just relax on the pristine white sands (sometimes black if you go to a volcanic sand beach). If you are feeling game you can head out onto the open water with your surfboard. If you don’t already know how there are a number of schools where you can learn to surf with the kids. This is something I would highly recommend for any family.

On the other side you can see the power of mother nature at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Here there are many opportunities to see nature at play with lava flowing into the sea, mountains, steam rising from the ground and a huge volcanic crater that you won’t soon forget.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with it’s great cafe culture, amazing buildings and museums and of course: the food. Vienna is a great place to take the family as there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

One highlight for the kids will surely be the Wurstelprater. This is a huge theme park with a number of rides, games and places to eat. Take a ride on the ferris wheel or the big tower with swings and you can see the entire city. The view is stunning.

Don’t forget to take the kids out for some Apple Strudel or a Wiener Schnitzel. The Viennese really know how to do food, so enjoy it!

If you are looking to get outdoors you can take a daytrip (Austria isn’t huge after all) out of the city to the mountains and enjoy the fresh air.

Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and it’s the ideal place to head with the family.

It has great food (largely thanks to its history of migration), museums, galleries, bars, cafes and so much more.

As well as this it has many beaches within the city limits that you can enjoy, but it’s best to head out further to enjoy the absolute best beaches.

If you want to head out a bit further, the Great Ocean Road is a world famous attraction that should not be missed. It is hundreds of kilometres of beautiful coastline that is just not comparable to anywhere else in the world.

Yellowstone National Park, USA

Yellowstone has millions of visitors every year and this is just one sign that it should be on your list of places to visit.

Yellowstone is known for its beauty and as the home of some of the most breathtaking nature around. There’s a good reason it was named as the first National Park on the entire planet. It has colourful lakes, geysers, lakes, rivers, forest, mountains and a unique array of wildlife.

Yellowstone also has many corners that are very much untouched, so if you are looking to get away from others and enjoy a more intimate family holiday, this is the place to be. Just don’t forget to pack your hiking boots!

Los Angeles, USA

LA is a great place to visit because it has so much to offer.

There are beautiful museums, galleries and so many cultural sights to see. Mix that in with great weather, beaches and a relaxed attitude that you simply cannot find anywhere else in the States and you have a place that must not be missed.

If you want to show your family an amazing collection of art, you can do so at the Getty Museum or the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art. These are two places that are highly recommended.

Walt Disney World, USA

Everyone knows that this is the land of dreams. We all grew up with Disney and visiting this magical place is a way to turn those images from the TV into a reality.

There is probably no better family holiday destination on the entire planet. It has a number of parks offering different themes. I absolutely love the Magic Kingdom, especially when you get to see the iconic Disney Castle (officially known as Cinderella Castle). There are so many great rides at Disney too!

Whether you want to swim, play, relax, ride or pretty much anything else, Walt Disney World is the place to visit and a place your family will talk about for many years to come.
