How To Look And Feel Good On The Beach

Is there anything better than the salt air, the sand under your toes and the sound of the crashing waves? No, I don't think so either! When many people think of the word holiday, they think of the beach. They picture themselves laying out in the hot sun, soaking in the relaxation that only the beach can bring. For some, however, the beach can be intimidating and even stressful. Being surrounded by beautiful bodies, it is easy for you to feel like your flaws are all on display (trust me, I know this only too well!). Dressed in your swim wear, there really is nowhere to hide and that can quite frankly be scary! So how do you look good on the beach?

While it is completely normal to feel a little self conscious on the beach, there are a few things you can do to look good when you go on that next vacation to a beautiful beach destination. I am going to share with you a few tips, that anyone can do, to feel more confident on the beach!

How to look good on the beach (and feel good too)

How to look and feel good on the beach

Wear minimal and waterproof makeup

When you visit the beach, it is important to not pile on the makeup. What will wind up happening is that while you may arrive to the beach looking your best, you probably won't leave that way. With the wind, water and your sweat, often times your makeup will smear or virtually melt off your skin. Plan your makeup look to be simple, dewy and very soft. Also, use waterproof makeup whenever possible on the beach!

Personally, I like to use a little bit of tinted moisturiser to soften my skin and give me a bit of a glow without looking like I'm leaving the house with a full face of makeup. My favourite is this one from Bare Minerals. I also love this mascara by benefit as it makes my short lashes look lovely, yet still natural.

Wear your hair up

If you want to look good on the beach you will have to do something with your hair. Whether you go for a simple ponytail or maybe a cabin crew style bun, wearing your hair up will alleviate a lot of stress. For many people, the salt air tends to make their hair frizzy and completely ruin any styling they did before arriving at the beach. Plan ahead and wear your hair up to avoid any hair situations! If you do struggle with tangled hair at the end of the day I would recommend Fructis shampoo and conditioner, I find that this makes my hair silky soft again and is great at getting knots out!

Choose swimwear that is both flattering and comfortable for you

There is nothing worse than showing up someplace in an outfit that you don't feel comfortable in or that might not be the right fit for you. This can definitely contribute to a feeling of self consciousness. When it comes to swimwear, you have a few options to chose from such as bikinis, swimming costume, shorts or even a dress.

Shop around for what look works best for you, the important thing is that you feel comfortable but look great! I never used to struggle in this department pre-pregnancy when I had a nice flat tummy but finding something to wear when pregnant or whilst trying to regain my nice flat tummy postpartum has been a challenge!

UK Swimwear recently gifted me this beautiful Dolores Cortes Aruba Swimsuit which I absolutely love. The quality is amazing and I love the colours as well! At almost 20 weeks pregnant I can't fit into it right now but it was perfect at the beginning of my pregnancy and will be great once the baby is here because it holds in my tummy brilliantly and looks super flattering! You can find this swimsuit, along with many more on their website

(Fake) tan before heading to the beach

Before you arrive at the beach, get your spray tan on. If you have very fair skin and don't naturally tan even when you are outside all day, then a spray tan is a great option for you. There are also lots of tanning lotions that will give you a hint of color, that you can do at home, and will make your skin look fabulous!

Accessorise your look

Just because you are going to the beach doesn't mean you can't accessorize and dress cute! There are so many accessories that are feasible for the beach like hats, sunglasses, flip flops, cover ups and towels. Personally, I love my Gandy's for flip flops a towels, my Ralph Lauren sunglasses and my Longchamp handbag.
