After an incredible week in New York, it was time to finish our trip with 3 nights in Boston. We caught the Amtrak from Penn Station in New York direct to Boston. It was a busy train but we managed to get a seat and settled in for the journey. We arrived in Boston late-afternoon and made our way to the Club Quarters hotel which was within walking distance to the station. After checking in and freshening up we went for a little explore in the area we were staying which was classed as Downtown Boston.
There was a British style pub next door so we went for a drink in the Elephant and Castle. Boston is famous for its Lobster Rolls and we came across Luke’s Lobster which we had seen on a list of recommended lobster roll places! It was a chilly evening and as we didn’t know the area decided this was a good place to eat. We had lobster rolls and clam chowder which were all delicious!
Afterwards, we had a little walk around and went for a few drinks in the Beantown Pub, it was busy but we managed to snag a spot at the bar. Boston is known for its craft-style beers which are not really my favourite. I’m not a big beer drinker but I do like the American beers such as Budweiser!
The next morning it was our first full day in Boston. We decided we wanted to check out the Freedom Trail, which is a famous walk in Boston. You follow the bricks on the footpaths and then stop to look at different historical sites. Before we begun we had a bagel at Bruegger’s Bagel and then set off looking for the trail.
Parts of the trail were in the area where we were staying but we wanted to go from the beginning. It was fun walking the trail and it’s a great way to see historical Boston. We did a lot of walking this day! As part of the trail we went aboard the USS Constitution. There were lots of places you could also explore along the trail too. It took us a lot longer than we anticipated!
By late afternoon we were getting hungry so we stopped at Regina’s Pizza for pizza and beer! This was the New York style we loved in NYC and it was really great pizza.
Refuelled we were back on the trail, there are quite a few pubs on the trail – It would be good for a pub crawl! We had to stop off at The Bell in Hand Tavern which is the oldest pub in the USA.
Before we knew it the day had got away from us, we were near our hotel so headed back and got ready for the evening. We ventured out and found a really nice bar called the Bostonian, it was a Friday night but we managed to get a spot at the bar for cocktails. Afterwards, we went to the Ginger Man which was also nice.
Saturday was our last full day in Boston, we had a slightly lazy morning and then went for breakfast next door at the Elephant and Castle. We decided to hop on the T-.Train to Fenway. When we arrived it was raining but we still prevailed and made our way to Fenway Park. There was no game but we walked around the ground.
We also found the Bleachers Bar which has a great view of the inside of the ground, it’s built into the bleachers so that was fun.
A few minutes away was Wahlburgers – Mark Whalbergs burger place, so we stopped off for a burger! Afterwards, the rain had stopped so we set off on foot back in the direction of our hotel, which was quite a walk.
The sun was shining and we arrived in the Back Bay area which looked like a nice place to stop, with shops, restaurants and coffee bars. Sadly, as it was a Saturday a few of the restaurants wouldn’t let us sit outside without ordering food, as we’d just had a big burger we didn’t bother so carried on walking.
Eventually, it was beginning to get dark and we were ready for a break from walking. Walking is the best way to see any city but it’s also tiring! We went found a bar/cafe/restaurant called Exploratuer. We sat at the bar and had a nice glass of wine!
We continued walking, looked around a few shops and had a few drinks and finished with a bit of sushi at Fuji.
Sunday morning it was time to pack up and check out of the hotel. We left our bags and went out for a final few hours of exploration – Including a stop off at the Abercrombie shop!
We went down to the waterfront to enquire about the Duck Tours, these are supposed to be a great tour of Boston and you also go in the water! As we hadn’t booked we couldn’t get in for a few hours and because we had a plane to catch we had to decline – Maybe next time!
Instead, we had a wander around the harbour before going for some lunch at the Granary Tavern. The weather was nice so we sat outside for what would probably our last nice day of weather before returning home to a British winter!
We walked around and soaked up the last moments of Boston before making our way to Boston airport ready to fly home.
Boston was a great place and 3 nights was not long enough to see everything! It’s somewhere I would love to visit again.
