Online therapy: A way to work and travel the world

A couple of years ago I read the book The Four Hour Work Week. In this book, Tim talks about ‘the new rich'. These are the people who have the time and freedom to be location independent and to do the things that they enjoy in life. Sounds idillic, right? But what jobs can you do that will allow you to live such a life?

I always knew that I wanted travel. I live and breathe travel most of the time (except when I am changing nappies, getting the kids dressed for school, making dinner- you know, the mundane ‘mum life' stuff…). So I always sought a career that involved travel. But, in the modern day world that we now live in, with super speed internet accessibility, smart phones and social networks, finding remote work that allows you to live the life you really want to live is easier than ever before.

So what jobs can I do that will allow me to travel?

We've all heard of the obvious travel-related jobs such as Cabin Crew, Holiday Rep, Cruise worker, Travel Agent etc. But what if your heart is set on something else? Or what if you re trained in a non travel-related job? Well, fear not!

One thing that I have recently come across is the option to work as an online counsellor. Getting a job in online career in psychotherapy is easier than you think, and it can be a really flexible and rewarding job too!

As you know, I am currently living in China. Here there are a few ‘trailing spouses' who have accompanied their partner, who has employment here in China. One lady I know is a qualified psychologist and has mother to two young children, and she has made an amazing career out of online counselling! I honestly didn't even though online counselling was a thing!

Working remotely it the perfect option when you have small children to run around after and travel adventures to undertake! My friend earns a good wage (you can earn up to $8500 a month!) and she sets her own hours. So she never misses a school sports match or parent teacher conference. And she is always available for days out at the beach or to climb a mountain! Whoop whoop!

In addition, she gets to do what she loves, without even leaving the house! Working as a therapist can be such a rewarding job. Yes, there are times when it can be tough, but seeing the positive progress a client makes with your help is such a wonderful thing!

There are many different areas that you can choose to specialise in including; school counselling, admissions counselling, genetic counselling, metal health counselling, enrolment counselling, alcohol and drug counselling.

So there you have it, a way to earn money AND travel the world that you hadn't heard of before! To learn more about working as an online therapist I recommend taking a look at this article by BetterHelp.
