Make Your Home Cozy in Time for Winter

It doesn't matter whether you worship the sun or prefer the long nights and cold weather of winter, the seasons will always change and you will have to adjust. It can be hard to fall in love with winter, especially if you get cold easily.

But one of the wonderful things about winter is that it’s the perfect time of year to try to be as cozy as possible. There’s nothing like coming in out of the cold and warming yourself up, or watching bad weather from a comfortable house.

With this in mind, here are a few ways to level up that cozy factor so you have something to look forward to and can fall in love with your home in winter.

Install a Fireplace

Depending on your property, this might be simple or a big job. In either case, it’s good to get it out of the way before the weather gets colder.

Older properties already have chimneys in place, but some newer properties might need a chimney installed. If your home used to have a fireplace, it’s still important to get a chimney sweep to clean your chimney before you try lighting a fire.

Another option is to get a gas or electric fireplace. True, it’s not the same as lighting logs, but they are easier to install and light and you still get that warmth and light you crave in winter.

Candles

If you like fire, you’ll love candles. Candles are small and easy to add to any room, and lighting a few candles in the evening and turning the lights low is a surefire way to make yourself feel as comfortable and cozy as possible.

Scented candles don’t just add light, but they also add a nice aroma to the room. It’s a good idea to have some unscented candles as well, because a roomful of different scents can get overpowering very quickly.

Rugs, Blankets, and Throws

Soft furnishings are a great way to quickly and easily add warmth to a room. Even better, you can use them during a blackout as an emergency way to keep warm. It’s always a good idea to have a few extra blankets around just in case.

Throws on sofas protect your furniture and make them warmer and more comfortable. Couple with cushions for an extra boost of comfort.

Finally, a rug is a great way to quickly warm up a hard floor. They get rid of empty space in the room so your room feels cozier and warmer.

Lighting

There’s a time and a place for bright lighting when you want to get things done. But when you just want to relax, it’s nice to turn the lights down. Lamps and dimmer lights give you greater control over the brightness of your room.

Another nice option is to add fairy lights. Yes, they don’t provide a lot of actual light, but they definitely make the evening feel more special and even magical.
