My Travel-Themed Girls’ Nursery

It wasn’t long after I found out I was pregnant that I started planning my travel-themed nursery. I was (and still am) so excited to be able to share my love of travel with my daughter! I did some research into travel-themed nurseries and there really wasn’t a great deal to go from apart from Pinterest boards. So after many weeks of research and shopping my baby girls’ travel-themed nursery is finally ready!

The centre-point of the room is the me-to-you hot air balloon. I thought this was super cute, had a travel focus and a splash of pink (I didn’t want the room to be too pink but I wanted it to look like a little girls’ room!). Unfortunately it isn’t all that practical as if you’re taller than about 5ft you will bump your head on it, lets just say whilst it looks great, my husband isn’t overly enthused with it. We will have to see how long it lasts once we are going in and out of the room all of the time to change nappies etc! You get get this lampshade from eBay or from various Etsy shops.

Finding things specific to travel for the nursery wasn’t as easy as I’d anticipated so many of the items are technically more safari than travel but I’m sure you can see the link there! Following the exotic animal theme I found these super cute curtain tie-backs. They were really good value at only £4 too, although I did have to wait a little while for them to arrive as they came all the way from China. You can buy the tie-backs from Amazon here

I also spent a long time looking for art work for the nursery. Canvas’s were too expensive and I wasn’t keen on stickers because I felt they looked a little bit cheap. So I settled for some reasonably priced frames and printed art. My world map is my favourite, which I had custom made by my future brother-in-law. He kindly did this for a gift for us ready for baby butterfly’s arrival and it is exactly what I hoped for! You can find more of his designs on his website here.

My animal artwork was kindly gifted to me by Modern Kids Gallery who also do custom made artwork. I was super impressed with their service, they had a range of designs and colours to choose from and posted the art out to me really quickly. They’re also really competitively priced. You can view more of their products on their website.

The nursery wouldn’t be complete without the travel-related accessories that I’ve collected and I particularly love the moonlight and melodies projection mobile. This was gifted to me by Skip Hop and it is a wonderful edition to the nursery. It was very easy to put together and is surprisingly sleek and modern looking. The animals are also super cute! This mobile plays four songs (Eine kleine Nacht musik, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Brahms Lullaby, Rock-a-bye Baby) and has four nature sounds (rainforest, crickets, waves, and heartbeat). It has leaves that light up as well as rotate and the ability to project stars up on the ceiling. I also like that it shuts off automatically after 20 minutes (I wouldn’t want it to run all night and drain the batteries due to the expense of C batteries!) but I can start it again with the remote if baby isn’t asleep yet. I think baby butterfly is going to love it! You can but this mobile from Amazon here

I was also kindly gifted a couple of items by Wicked Uncle as part of their baby and toddler month promotion. Marvin the monkey is a fabulous edition not only to the nursery but also for the pram and the car as he can be attached in any of these places. He is super soft and cuddly and also plays sounds which include peaceful waterfall, sleepy lullaby, ocean waves and monkey chatter. He has a timer of 23 or 45 minutes. I especially like this item because not only is it super cute but it can be transported around while we are on our travels! Wicked Uncle also gifted me this really cute rabbit in dungarees with a built in rattle. It’s really small so ideal for once baby butterfly she is ready for a bit of stimulation. Wicked Uncle have a great range of products suitable for babies and I would highly recommend taking a look at their website which can be found here.

Seen as my due date fell not long after Christmas I asked my family to buy me baby things this year as gifts. I received four gifts that are perfect for my travel-themed nursery. My mum bought me a bouncy chair with really cute forest-themed animals on it and my sister bought me a play mat that’s perfect for tummy-time with caterpillars and butterflies on it – very fitting! My sisters also got me a small giraffe comforter and a huge elephant teddy bear that I love-Hopefully I’ll get some good photos of the baby with these once she’s here! Unfortunately I don’t have the links for where these items came from for you as they were presents.

My last two items were not actually intended for the nursery, but I think they make a great contribution! The money box was actually given to my husband and I when we announced our engagement by friends of ours to help save for our wedding. Now that we no longer need it for this purpose we have decided to give it to our daughter with the intention of inspiring her to save for her future travels! The flip flops were bought last summer for our baby announcement photo and have already been on their travels across Greece. Obviously she won’t fit into these (or be able to keep them on!) for a while yet, so in the meantime they work as a great decoration for the window ledge!

So that’s the nursery all ready and waiting for baby butterfly’s arrival which is due in only four weeks’ time. I love looking in there every time I walk past and I can’t wait to show it to my daughter once she’s here! I’m soooo excited! Are you thinking of doing a travel-themed nursery? If so I’d love to hear your ideas, feel free to leave your comments below!
