The Newbie Backpacker’s Checklist

In this day and age, it’s uncommon to find someone that hasn’t been abroad at least once in their lifetime. However, even if you’re a seasoned holidaymaker, going on an extended trip across various locations is an entirely new adventure.

Losing your backpacking virginity is exciting, scary, and unfamiliar. Equipping yourself with the necessary equipment needed to maximize that enjoyment is key. Ensure that these items are on your checklist, and you should be just fine.

Suitable luggage: You will be traveling a lot of miles during your trip, taking various planes, trains and bus rides. Therefore, the right luggage is vital for the safety of your possessions as well as your comfort. You can find many options at your local shopping center, but the best options are also listed on Luggage on Tour. Frankly, getting this choice right is vital for all travelers. If you’re going to stay in hostels, just remember to buy a suitable locking device too.

Communication tools: Given that you’ll be spending a long period away from friends and family, using modern tech to stay in touch is key. It’s important for them to see that you’re safe while that connection back home can be very comforting for you too. This is also a great way to document your adventures. Finally, download a translator App, as you may need it at various stages.

Power supplies: If you’re going to be using tech, it’s imperative that you purchase a universal travel adapter before leaving. Not every place you visit or stay will have charging facilities, though. Therefore, taking a portable charger on your travels is strongly advised too.

Cheap entertainment: Those electronic devices can be a great source of entertainment. However, there are times when conserving their power will be essential. If you’re traveling alone, a good book is a fantastic way to pass the time. Alternatively, crossword books and other puzzles can work wonders too. Meanwhile, card games can be great for small groups and can be a way to make friends on bus rides and other journeys. Either way, staying occupied throughout those less exciting moments is key.

Clean water supplies: Drinking tap water while abroad isn’t best advised. Meanwhile, buying bottled water on a daily basis can soon bump up your costs. Buying a water filtration bottle will save you lots of money in the long run. More importantly, it’ll ensure you can always access clean water. So even if you’re on a trek or a similar challenge, your most basic human needs will be catered for.

Travel medicines: When entering new territories, your body could be at risk. Therefore, researching the requirements for injections against various diseases is essential. However, it’s equally important to know about the medicines and other precautions that may be needed out there. Build a small first aid kit to help you through any dangerous situations. Couple this with suitable travel health insurance, and you’ll have nothing to fear. The time of your life awaits!
