Getting The Courage To Solo Travel

Solo travel has undeniable benefits for those who choose to do it. You can learn so much about yourself, explore different cultures and countries, and build up a huge amount of confidence. However, getting the courage to simply go and do it can be the hardest part. How can you take the leap? Let’s talk about building up the courage to go it alone!

Realize There Will Never Be A ‘Perfect’ Time

If you’re waiting for the perfect time, you’re waiting for something that will never come. Maybe it will to a few lucky people; you lose your job and then win the lottery or something. However, this is highly unlikely. The best thing to do is just go, as soon as you can. As we get older, we tend to have more commitments. These commitments can stop us from going. You want to go before you have kids, or even a spouse to worry about. Before you have a mortgage. You can cancel your phone, take your car off the road, sell your stuff and go right now. What’s keeping you here? It will seem scary, but it’ll be one of the best things you ever do!

Do A Ton Of Research

Doing some research can ease your mind, but don’t just do researching if you’re going to become paralyzed by it.  Do your research on the countries you’d like to visit, the things to do, how expensive they are, how safe they are, etc. This will give you an idea of how much money you need, how you’ll get work (if you plan on getting work), and how long you want to stay in each place. You should also read books and blogs from others who have done it. It’ll give you confidence. If they can do it, why can’t you?

Start Making Plans

Just start making plans. You don’t have to book anything yet, but get serious about deciding where you’ll go first, and maybe where you’ll stay. Create a rough itinerary for yourself. If you're feeling brave, just book your first flight! Take it one step at a time.

Join A Group

If you’re seriously terrified of going it alone, or simply being lonely, there are singles travel groups you can look at. This way, you’re still doing something spontaneous alone, but you get to meet likeminded individuals and make some new friends while you do it!

Focus On The Good Stuff

Instead of thinking about what could go wrong and letting that stop you, focus on the good stuff instead. Think of the incredible experiences you could have, the amazing people you could meet. The tales you’ll have to tell the folks back home!

Consider Taking A Shorter Trip First

Maybe you could plan a simple weekend break alone, to build your confidence up. Soon enough, you’ll be ready for a month long break alone or longer.

Fake It Until You Make It

Don’t feel confident? Pretend you do until you actually start to feel it! This is a technique that many successful people use to step outside of their comfort zones.
