Five Steps To Staying Healthy When You Travel Abroad

When you are planning a trip abroad, then something that you are likely to forget about is what to do if you get sick when you’re away. When you’re abroad you’re out of your comfort zone, may not speak the language, and may not know what is around you to help. So taking care of yourself when you are away is really key. You will need to make sure that you take care of your skin, your hair, your eyes, ears (I recommend Auris Ear Care) and nose as well as your internal organs! So here are some top tips to helping you to stay healthy and well as you travel.

Sleep!

When you’re crossing over time zones then it can be tricky to know what time it is and what your body wants to be doing. But aiming to get enough sleep when you travel is really important. Your body does need to rest up when you travel, especially when you’re travelling far. Listen to your body and sleep when you need to, which is essential if you’re going to be out a lot and will be exerting yourself.

Use Apps

Having some handy apps on your smartphone can be helpful when you’re abroad. One of the most useful to have is Google Translate, as it quickly translates anything you type in to something you will understand. You can also hold it over something and it will scan the image and translate it right there and then for you. This could be helpful when it comes to getting medicine, for example. Another app could be one like GPs powered by babylon, where you can arrange a video call consultation with a GP. That way they speak your language, and could give you an indication of what may be wrong with you and how to treat it, if you have fallen ill.

Stretch

Taking some time to stretch or do some yoga can be a good thing to do when you’re away. Unless you’re staying in a hotel with a gym, then it can be hard to exercise as you normally would be doing. But stretching or basic yoga (that could be followed using apps or YouTube), can be a good way to build up your strength, as well as decrease your stress levels.

Keep Hydrated

It can be tricky when you’re going to be out all day in a foreign country, as you may not know when you will next get to a shop to get a drink. So having a refillable bottle of water with you at all times is a really good idea. Keeping hydrated is key to staying well, as well as having the energy that you need. So make it a priority when you’re away from the comfort of home.

Eat Well

Depending on where you are, it can be tricky to eat well. But making a conscious decision to have plenty of fruit and veggies on your travels is a good idea. Tourist spots are often filled with burger bars, pizza restaurants, and fast-food chains. While these can be fine occasionally, if it is all you’re eating for the week that you’re away, it will make you feel pretty rough.
